Malurus cyaneus- Superb Fairy Wren

Interesting facts

Family: Maluridae

Status: Least concern

Type of birds: Bush bird

The Fairy Wren is found in eastern Australia, as well as in Tasmania. The specific species of Fairy Wren that inspired the coloring on my design, is the Superb Fairy Wren. It has this amazing triangle shaped colors on it’s head and neck, and in breeding season the colors on the males are even more vivid. This small bird is often roaming around in parks and gardens.

Keeping the species alive

As well as spending time in parks and gardens, this birds natural habitat is woodland and grasslands. In the Maluridae family there are roughly 30 species divided into six genera; the fairy wrens, grass wrens and emu-wrens. Most of the fairy wren birds are in high numbers, but there are some species that are endangered, like the purple-crowned fairywren. This species lives near rivers with dense vegetation. This type of habitat is especially vulnerable for change.

Put together three colors from your favorite fairy wren bird and wear the colors with pride, just like this tiny little bird!
